Why did Valve remove sticker capsules for Cologne 2026?

Cologne 2026 was the first CS2 Major with no sticker capsules and no souvenir packages (DMarket, May 2026; white.market). The old model was a gamble: buy a capsule, hope for a rare sticker. Valve replaced it with a token-based Major Shop where you buy the exact sticker you want — team logo, player autograph, and the paper, holo, foil or gold tier — directly, with no random draw.

How does the token pricing system actually set a sticker's price?

Prices are demand-driven and float continuously. When a sticker sells more than others, its price rises; when demand cools, it falls (EGW, May 2026). You pay in tokens, and tokens start at 100 tokens for $0.99 (Strafe).

Because the price is a live auction of attention, the launch window was the worst possible time to buy: everyone rushed the same handful of star-player Golds at once. The full top-100 set reached $19,447.37 and the single most expensive sticker hit $1,522 in early June 2026 (gHacks, 5 Jun 2026). Those are launch-window figures; demand has fallen since.

Yes. As of 12 September 2026 the token-based Major Shop is still open, and it is scheduled to close on 29 September 2026. After that date, new supply from the shop stops and the only way to buy Cologne 2026 stickers is through third-party marketplaces, where they already trade (white.market).

That deadline matters for one reason only: it is the last point at which fresh supply enters. What happens to prices afterward depends on demand, which we don't forecast.

What does the 25-token, 24-hour refund rule actually cover?

If a sticker's token price falls by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours of your purchase, the game automatically refunds you the difference in tokens (Strafe). That is the full extent of the protection:

• It only applies in the first 24 hours after you buy.
• It only covers drops beyond the 25-token threshold in that window.
• It does nothing about a sticker bleeding value over days or weeks — which is exactly what happened to most Cologne 2026 stickers after launch.

Which Cologne 2026 stickers held value best?

The clearest pattern in the data is counterintuitive: team-logo Golds held far better than star-player autograph Golds.

• Falcons (Gold) — the champion's team logo — peaked at ~$459 on the day of the final (21 June) and still sat near $425 in mid-September, barely off its high (csgoskins.gg).
• Team Spirit (Gold) held around $420 against a ~$700 high (csgoskins.gg).
• Meanwhile the two most-hyped player Golds cratered: donk (Gold) ~−93% and ZywOo (Gold) ~−92% from their May peaks.

The likely reason is supply. Star-player autograph Golds were what everyone rushed to buy at launch, so the market flooded with them and the price collapsed. Finalist team logos were bought more steadily and stayed comparatively scarce.
